Cash Out Calculator Ireland
Bookmakers offer cash out to let you settle your bet early — but the offered amount is almost always less than the mathematically fair value. This calculator shows you the fair cash out price and exactly how much margin the bookmaker is taking.

The amount you originally staked on the bet
The decimal odds when you placed the bet — e.g. 4.00 means a potential €80 return on a €20 stake
The current in-play or pre-event odds for the same selection right now (your bet is "in profit" if this is lower)

The Maths Behind Cash Out
The fair cash out value is the amount that leaves you with the same expected return whether you cash out or let the bet run. It’s calculated as:
Fair Cash Out Value
Fair Value = (Original Stake × Original Odds) / Current Odds
Example
Stake: €20 at original odds 4.00 (potential return: €80)
Current odds have dropped to 2.50 (your selection is winning)
Fair Value = (€20 × 4.00) / 2.50 = €80 / 2.50 = €32.00
If the bookmaker offers €28.00, the margin = (32 − 28) / 32 = 12.5%
Fair Value = (Original Stake × Original Odds) / Current Odds
Example
Stake: €20 at original odds 4.00 (potential return: €80)
Current odds have dropped to 2.50 (your selection is winning)
Fair Value = (€20 × 4.00) / 2.50 = €80 / 2.50 = €32.00
If the bookmaker offers €28.00, the margin = (32 − 28) / 32 = 12.5%
Why do bookmakers offer less? Cash out is a product — bookmakers build a margin into the offered price just as they do in original odds. The margin effectively means you pay for the convenience of early settlement. A cash out margin of 5–10% is typical; above 15% is poor value and you’re better off letting the bet run (accepting the risk).
When Should You Take the Cash Out?
Consider cashing out if:
- The margin is below 8% and you want to lock in a certain profit
- An unexpected event (key player injury, red card) materially changed your view
- The cash out locks in a return you’d be happy with regardless of the result
Consider letting it run if:
- The bookmaker’s margin is above 15% — the price is deeply unfair
- Your original analysis hasn’t changed — the bet is going to plan
- You’re cashing out primarily because of emotions (fear of losing) rather than logic
