The Dog House Overview
The Dog House from Pragmatic Play is one of the most beloved slot series in online gaming, and the original title remains a fan favourite among Irish players in 2026. This charming 5x3 slot puts adorable cartoon dogs centre stage, combining a lighthearted theme with genuinely rewarding mechanics. With sticky wilds that carry multipliers during free spins, The Dog House delivers exciting gameplay that appeals to both casual players and experienced slot enthusiasts.
The game plays across 20 fixed paylines with a medium-high volatility profile, striking a nice balance between regular base game wins and the potential for larger payouts during the free spins bonus. At 6,750x maximum win, The Dog House offers solid reward potential without the extreme volatility swings found in some of Pragmatic Play's more aggressive titles.
Since its release, The Dog House has spawned an entire franchise including The Dog House Megaways, The Dog House Multihold, and several other variants. The original remains the most straightforward and accessible entry point into the series, making it an ideal choice for players who want engaging gameplay without overly complex mechanics.
How The Dog House Works
The base game of The Dog House is relatively straightforward. Symbols land on a 5x3 grid across 20 paylines, and wins are formed by landing three or more matching symbols on a payline from left to right. The highest-paying symbols are the various dog breeds — a Doberman, a Pug, a Dachshund, and a Shih Tzu — while lower-paying symbols are represented by card suits (hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades).
The wild symbol is a dog house that substitutes for all regular symbols except the scatter. In the base game, wilds function normally as substitution symbols. However, during free spins, wilds become sticky and carry multipliers, which is where the real excitement begins.
Sticky Wilds with Multipliers
The defining feature of The Dog House is its sticky wild mechanic during free spins. When a wild symbol lands on the reels during the bonus round, it becomes sticky — remaining in place for the duration of the free spins. Each sticky wild carries a random multiplier of either 2x or 3x.
When multiple sticky wilds with multipliers contribute to the same winning combination, their multipliers are multiplied together rather than added. This means two 3x wilds on the same payline create a 9x multiplier, and three 3x wilds would result in a massive 27x multiplier applied to the line win. This multiplicative stacking is the engine behind The Dog House's biggest payouts.
As the free spins progress and more sticky wilds accumulate on the reels, the potential for multiplied wins grows exponentially. A fully loaded reel set with several 3x sticky wilds can produce wins that approach the game's 6,750x maximum, making every additional free spin increasingly exciting.
Free Spins Bonus
Landing three or more paw print scatter symbols triggers the free spins round. Three scatters award 9 free spins, four scatters award 12 free spins, and five scatters award 27 free spins. The bonus can also be retriggered during the round by landing additional scatters.
During free spins, all wilds that land become sticky and remain on the reels until the bonus ends. Each sticky wild is assigned a 2x or 3x multiplier at random. The combination of sticky wilds, multiplied multipliers, and the potential for retriggers creates a bonus round that builds momentum as it progresses. Early free spins populate the reels with wilds, and later spins benefit from the accumulated sticky positions and their combined multipliers.
Theme and Design
The Dog House features a bright, cartoonish art style with adorable dog characters that give the game an instantly appealing personality. The backdrop shows a sunny suburban garden with a wooden dog house and white picket fence. The four dog breed symbols are beautifully illustrated with distinct personalities, and they animate with playful barking and tail-wagging during wins.
The soundtrack is cheerful and upbeat, with playful musical cues that match the lighthearted theme. Sound effects include barking, squeaky toys, and satisfying jingles for winning combinations. The overall presentation is polished and charming, making The Dog House an enjoyable slot to spend time with regardless of the results.

The Dog House FAQ
The Dog House has a default RTP of 96.51%, which is above the industry average. As with all Pragmatic Play slots, some casinos may offer a reduced RTP version, so check the game's information panel before playing to confirm.
During free spins, every wild that lands becomes sticky and stays on the reels for the rest of the bonus. Each sticky wild carries a random 2x or 3x multiplier. When multiple sticky wilds contribute to the same payline win, their multipliers are multiplied together — so two 3x wilds create a 9x multiplier on that win.
The original Dog House uses a classic 5x3 grid with 20 paylines. The Dog House Megaways version features up to 117,649 ways to win with a dynamic reel system. The Dog House Multihold offers multiple sets of reels playing simultaneously. Each version retains the sticky wild multiplier mechanic but presents it differently.
The original Dog House does not include a buy bonus feature. You must trigger the free spins naturally by landing three or more paw print scatter symbols. Some of the newer variants in the series may include a buy bonus option depending on your jurisdiction.
Yes, The Dog House is an excellent choice for beginners. The 5x3 grid with 20 paylines is a standard, easy-to-understand format. The sticky wilds mechanic during free spins is straightforward and visually intuitive. The medium-high volatility also means wins come more frequently than in extreme high-volatility slots, making for a more forgiving experience.
