Starlight Princess Overview
Starlight Princess from Pragmatic Play is the anime-inspired sister slot to the hugely popular Gates of Olympus. Released to massive anticipation, this 6x5 grid slot swaps Greek mythology for a magical anime princess theme while retaining the same beloved tumble mechanic and multiplier system that made its predecessor a worldwide hit. For Irish players who enjoyed Gates of Olympus, Starlight Princess offers a familiar yet fresh experience.
The game uses the same scatter pays system found in Gates of Olympus, meaning wins are formed by landing eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the reels, regardless of their position. After every winning combination, the tumble mechanic removes winning symbols and drops new ones into place, creating the potential for consecutive wins from a single spin. This mechanic is the foundation of the game's high-volatility action.
While the maths model is very similar to Gates of Olympus, Starlight Princess has carved out its own identity through its distinctive visual style and the subtle differences in how its features feel during play. Many players prefer the softer aesthetic and find the anime theme more engaging over long sessions.
Multiplier Tumble Feature
The core mechanic of Starlight Princess is the multiplier tumble system. During both the base game and free spins, random multiplier symbols can appear on the reels alongside regular paying symbols. These multipliers range from 2x all the way up to 500x, and they function identically to their Gates of Olympus counterparts.
When multiplier symbols appear during a tumble sequence, their values are collected and added together. The combined multiplier is then applied to the total win from that tumble round. In the base game, multipliers reset after each paid spin. However, during free spins, the multipliers accumulate across all tumbles without resetting, which is where the game's biggest wins are generated.
The key to landing a massive win on Starlight Princess is hitting a long tumble sequence during free spins while multiple high-value multipliers appear on the reels. When several 100x or 500x multipliers stack together, the accumulated multiplier can reach extraordinary levels, pushing wins toward the 5,000x maximum.
Free Spins and Buy Bonus
Landing four or more scatter symbols anywhere on the reels triggers the free spins round. You receive 15 free spins, and this is where Starlight Princess truly shines. The accumulated multiplier mechanic means that every tumble in the bonus round builds on the previous one, creating an escalating sense of excitement as the multiplier climbs higher and higher.
Additional scatter symbols during free spins retrigger the bonus, awarding extra free spins and extending the accumulation window. Some of the game's most spectacular wins come from retriggered free spins sessions where the multiplier has been building for dozens of consecutive tumbles.
Starlight Princess also includes a Buy Bonus feature, allowing players to purchase direct entry into the free spins round for 100x their current stake. This bypasses the base game entirely and drops you straight into 15 free spins with accumulated multipliers. While expensive, the buy bonus is popular with players who prefer concentrated high-volatility action. Note that the buy bonus feature may not be available in all jurisdictions.
Theme and Design
Starlight Princess features a stunning anime-inspired visual design that sets it apart from the more traditional mythological themes common in high-volatility slots. The titular princess floats to the side of the reels, surrounded by clouds and celestial light. She animates during big wins, casting magical spells as multipliers rain down on the reels.
The colour palette is dominated by soft pinks, purples, and golds, creating a dreamy atmosphere that contrasts nicely with the intense gameplay. Symbols include hearts, stars, wings, and crystal gems in various colours. The soundtrack features ethereal J-pop-inspired melodies that build in intensity during tumble sequences and reach a crescendo during the free spins bonus.
Verdict
Starlight Princess is an excellent high-volatility slot that successfully stands alongside Gates of Olympus rather than simply copying it. The anime theme gives it a unique visual identity, while the core tumble and multiplier mechanics deliver the same thrilling gameplay that made its predecessor so popular. With an RTP of 96.50%, a 5,000x max win, and the option to buy directly into free spins, Starlight Princess is a top-tier choice for Irish players who enjoy accumulating multiplier slots.
