Big Bass Splash Overview
Big Bass Splash from Pragmatic Play is the third instalment in the enormously popular Big Bass series, following Big Bass Bonanza and Bigger Bass Bonanza. This fishing-themed slot takes the beloved formula of fisherman wilds collecting money symbols and adds exciting new mechanics including extra free spins upgrades and enhanced multiplier potential. For Irish players who already love the Big Bass franchise, Splash is widely considered the best entry in the series.
The game plays on a classic 5x3 grid with 10 fixed paylines, keeping the straightforward structure that made Big Bass Bonanza so accessible. However, Big Bass Splash introduces a multi-tiered free spins system that gives you the chance to upgrade your bonus round with additional free spins, extra fisherman wilds, and higher multipliers. This layered approach to the free spins mechanic creates more varied and potentially more rewarding bonus sessions.
With an RTP of 96.71% — one of the strongest in Pragmatic Play's catalogue — and medium-high volatility that balances excitement with playability, Big Bass Splash hits a sweet spot that appeals to a broad range of players. Whether you are a casual angler or a seasoned slot enthusiast, there is plenty to enjoy here.
How Big Bass Splash Works
The base game of Big Bass Splash follows the standard Big Bass formula. Symbols include various fish species as high-value symbols and card royals (A, K, Q, J, 10) as lower-value symbols. The fisherman acts as the wild symbol, substituting for all regular symbols, while the tackle box serves as the scatter that triggers the free spins bonus.
Money symbols also appear on the reels, displaying random cash values. In the base game, these money symbols pay their face value when they land as part of a winning combination with the fisherman wild. However, it is in the free spins round where the money symbol mechanic truly comes alive.
Free Spins with Fisherman Wilds
Landing three or more scatter symbols triggers the free spins round. What sets Big Bass Splash apart from its predecessors is the multi-level free spins system. Before the bonus begins, you spin a wheel that determines your free spins package. Different outcomes award different numbers of free spins, and crucially, different numbers of fisherman wilds that will appear during the bonus round.
During free spins, the fisherman wild symbol takes on its signature role. When a fisherman wild lands on the reels alongside money symbols, the fisherman "catches" all visible money symbols, collecting their cash values. The fisherman can also carry a multiplier of up to 10x, which is applied to all the money values he collects on that spin.
Multiple fisherman wilds can appear on the same spin, each collecting money symbols independently. When several fishermen with multipliers are active simultaneously, the combined collection of money symbols with multiplied values can produce extraordinary payouts. This is the engine behind Big Bass Splash's 5,000x maximum win.
The free spins round can also award additional spins through retrigger mechanics, extending the bonus and giving you more opportunities for fisherman-money symbol interactions. Extended bonus rounds with multiple high-multiplier fishermen are where the game's biggest wins materialise.
Upgrades and Extra Features
Big Bass Splash introduces several upgrades over the original Big Bass Bonanza formula. The pre-bonus wheel spin adds a layer of anticipation and variety that was absent from earlier entries. The potential for upgraded free spins packages means that some bonus triggers are significantly more valuable than others, adding excitement to every scatter landing.
The multiplier system on the fisherman wilds has also been enhanced. While the original Big Bass Bonanza featured simpler multiplier mechanics, Big Bass Splash allows multipliers to reach higher values and stack more effectively. This gives the game greater peak potential while maintaining the accessible base game that made the series so popular.
Additionally, Big Bass Splash features improved visual feedback during the bonus round, with clearer animations showing money symbols being collected and multipliers being applied. This makes the free spins round easier to follow and more satisfying to watch, especially during big-win sequences.
Theme and Design
Big Bass Splash continues the lakeside fishing theme established by Big Bass Bonanza, with a sun-drenched riverbank backdrop complete with lily pads, reeds, and sparkling water. The visual design has been refined and polished compared to earlier entries, with richer colours and smoother animations throughout.
The fish symbols are vibrantly illustrated, ranging from small perch to large bass, each with distinct markings and colours. The fisherman character is animated with personality, casting his line and reeling in catches during winning spins. Money symbols splash onto the reels with water droplet effects, and the collection animation when a fisherman catches money symbols is particularly satisfying.
The soundtrack features cheerful country-folk music that perfectly complements the relaxed fishing theme. Sound effects include splashing water, reel clicking, and the satisfying ping of coins being collected. The audio design creates a pleasant, immersive atmosphere that makes long sessions enjoyable.
Verdict
Big Bass Splash is the definitive entry in the Big Bass series, building on the beloved formula with meaningful upgrades that enhance every aspect of the experience. The multi-level free spins system adds variety and anticipation, the enhanced multiplier mechanics increase peak potential, and the strong 96.71% RTP gives players fair value. With medium-high volatility and a 5,000x max win, Big Bass Splash is an excellent choice for Irish players who enjoy fishing-themed slots with rewarding bonus rounds.
