About NetEnt
NetEnt (Net Entertainment) is one of the true pioneers of the online casino industry. Founded in Stockholm, Sweden in 1996, the company helped shape what online slots look like today. For over two decades, NetEnt set the standard for game quality, innovation, and player experience before being acquired by Evolution Gaming Group in 2020.
Now operating as a brand within the Evolution family, NetEnt continues to develop and release new slot titles while maintaining its legendary back catalogue. Their games are known for polished graphics, balanced mathematics, and innovative mechanics that have been widely copied across the industry. The Avalanche (cascading wins) mechanic, popularised by Gonzo's Quest in 2011, fundamentally changed how slot games could work.
NetEnt holds licences from the Malta Gaming Authority and the UK Gambling Commission. Their games are available at virtually every reputable online casino serving Irish players, making them one of the most accessible providers in the market.
Top 5 NetEnt Games in Ireland
1. Starburst
The most famous online slot ever created. Starburst's simple yet addictive gameplay features expanding wilds on reels 2, 3, and 4 that trigger re-spins. Its jewel-themed 5x3 grid with 10 paylines and both-ways pay mechanic has made it a permanent fixture in casino lobbies worldwide. Low volatility with frequent wins makes it perfect for bonus wagering. RTP: 96.09%.
2. Gonzo's Quest
The game that introduced the Avalanche mechanic to online slots. Instead of spinning reels, stone blocks fall into place, and winning combinations explode to let new blocks cascade down. Consecutive Avalanche wins increase the multiplier up to 5x in base play and 15x during free falls. A genuine industry milestone. RTP: 95.97%.
3. Dead or Alive 2
The high-volatility sequel to NetEnt's cult classic Wild West slot. Three different free spins modes — Old Saloon, High Noon, and Train Heist — offer varying levels of risk and reward. Sticky wilds with multipliers in the Train Heist mode can deliver wins exceeding 100,000x your stake, making it one of the highest max-win slots ever made. RTP: 96.82%.
4. Narcos
Based on the hit television series, Narcos captures the dramatic tension of the show with three bonus features: Walking Wilds, Locked Up, and Drive-By. The game's cinematic presentation includes authentic clips and a soundtrack that immerses you in the world of the Medellín cartel. Medium-high volatility with a 1,506x max win. RTP: 96.23%.
5. Twin Spin
An innovative slot that links adjacent reels together on every spin. At least two neighbouring reels always display identical symbols, and they can expand to link three, four, or even all five reels together. The retro design with neon lights and a synth soundtrack gives it a timeless appeal. Medium volatility with a 1,080x max win. RTP: 96.55%.
Unique Features & Mechanics
NetEnt has been responsible for several innovations that have become standard features across the entire online slots industry:
- Avalanche / Cascading Wins: Pioneered in Gonzo's Quest, winning symbols explode and new ones fall into place from above. This mechanic has been adopted and adapted by virtually every other provider under names like Tumble, Cascade, and Collapsing Reels.
- Cluster Pays: NetEnt helped popularise the cluster-pays format where wins are formed by groups of adjacent matching symbols rather than traditional paylines. Aloha! Cluster Pays was one of the first major cluster-pay slots.
- Max Megaways: NetEnt has developed its own take on the Megaways format, integrating the dynamic reel system with their signature polish and balance.
- Branded Content: NetEnt has a strong history of premium branded slots, including games based on major entertainment properties like Narcos, Gordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen, and the iconic rock-themed slots.
- Both-Ways Pays: Starburst's innovation of paying winning combinations from both left-to-right and right-to-left has been widely adopted across the industry.
Game Quality & Mathematics
NetEnt games are renowned for their balanced mathematics. While they offer titles across the volatility spectrum, the majority of their catalogue sits in the low-to-medium volatility range, making them ideal for players who prefer a steadier, more predictable gameplay experience. Their RTP values tend to be generous, often sitting between 96% and 97%, which is above the current industry average.
The production quality of NetEnt slots is consistently high, with detailed animations, layered soundtracks, and smooth performance across all devices. Even their older titles hold up remarkably well compared to newer releases from other providers.
Mobile Compatibility
NetEnt was one of the first providers to embrace mobile gaming, transitioning their entire catalogue to HTML5 years before many competitors. All NetEnt slots run flawlessly on smartphones and tablets, with touch-optimised interfaces that maintain the full feature set of the desktop versions. Their NetEnt Touch platform ensures consistent quality across iOS and Android devices.
